Usage notes

  • For the means of transport, Czech uses the preposition na (on) and the locative case, or the instrumental case without a preposition.
jezdit na kole – to ride a bike
jezdit vlakem – to go by train
jezdit autem – to go by car (but: řídit auto)
  • While the word jet refers to a single journey, jezdit implies a habitual or a general action.
Pojedeš tam autem nebo autobusem? – Will you go there by car or by bus?
Do práce jezdil tramvají. – He used to go to work by tram.
