From Old Galician-Portuguese, from Late Latin iūdicāmentum, jūdicāmentum, from Latin iūdex (“judge”). Equivalent to julgar + -mento. Compare Spanish juzgamiento, Catalan and Occitan jutjament, French jugement, Italian giudicamento.
