From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *karpudā, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *kerp, *(s)kerp. Cognate to Ancient Greek καρπός (karpós, fruit), κείρω (keírō, to cut off), Latin carpere (to seize), German Herbst. Alternatively, compare Lithuanian kèpuré (cap) and Latvian cępure (id).
