Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish كوپك (köpek), from Proto-Turkic *köpek. Either from köp (in the sense of "a herd of many dogs"),[1] or from kelebek (“butterfly”).[2] Shor xopax (“butterfly”) reflects the only exact semantical match.[3]
