Cognate with Czech klus, Slovene kljusati (to amble), dialectal Serbo-Croatian кљусати/kljusati (whence кљусе/kljuse (nag)), Old East Slavic клюся (kljusja, foal), dialectal Bulgarian клюсе (kljuse, young horse). Non-Slavic cognates include Gothic 𐌿𐍃𐌷𐌻𐌰𐌿𐍀𐌰𐌽 (ushláupan, jump up), German laufen and according to Matzenauer as quoted by Skok - Old High German hrys ( > German Roß) and Old Norse hryssa (mare).
