Turkish[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish قولای(kolay), Old Anatolian Turkish قولای(qolay), from kol (arm; earlier also 'hand') +‎ -ay, thus having the original meaning “handy”[1]. Nişanyan compares the Old Turkic verbal stem [script needed] (qol-, to want; beg), which is also derived from the stem meaning 'arm/hand' [2].
