[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قوریمق (korumak), itself from Proto-Common Turkic *kōrï-. Cognate with Azerbaijani qorumaq (“to protect”), Gagauz koorumaa, Turkmen gōramak, Old Turkic 𐰸𐰆𐰺 (korï-, “to protect”), Uzbek qoʻrimoq (“to protect”).
