Etymology

From Ukrainian ковбаса́ (kovbasá, sausage), a very early Slavic borrowing with no clear antecedent. The Slavic variants point to several reconstructed forms from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Slavic *kъlbasa, *klobasa, *kobasa. It is considered most likely to be borrowed from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 333: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "trk" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. language; compare Turkish külbastı (roasted meat), from kül (ash), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Turkic kül, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *kül (ashes).
