Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *kúrnas or *kúrˀnas. Compare Proto-Slavic *kъrnъ (maimed). Related to kur̃ls (deaf), Lithuanian kur̃čias (deaf) with different suffixes.[1]
