From Middle Dutch quite, from Medieval Latin quitus (discharged, released (from debt)), a byform of Classical Latin quiētus (quiet). Compare Low German quit, quiet, German quitt, Danish kvit, Swedish quitt, Icelandic kvittur. More at quit, quite.
