[edit]Aorist of lë (“to let/leave (behind), etc.”); from Proto-Albanian *lauša. Related to Gothic 𐌻𐌰𐌿𐍃 (laus, “loosen, set free, empty”). Further related to Ancient Greek λύω (lúō, “to loose, release”).[1]
Cognate to Gheg Albanian lash and Arbëresh/Arvanitika Albanian liáse.[2] Cf. Albanian lashtë (“old, elderly; left behind”).
