Vietnamese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 旅館.

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

lữ quán

  1. (historical) a lodge, an inn

Usage notes[edit]

  • Although the term itself is never used for any kind of lodging in modern Vietnam and therefore chiefly occurs in historical fiction, it can also be used as a stand-in for Sino-Xenic cognates such as Japanese 旅館 (ryokan) in translation.
