Middle French method, borrowed from Latin methodus, from Ancient Greek μέθοδος (méthodos, “pursuit of knowledge, investigation, mode of prosecuting such inquiry, system”), from μετά (metá, “after”) + ὁδός (hodós, “way, motion, journey”).
