  1. A Portuguese confection of yeast dough formed into a ball, deep-fried in oil, and coated with sugar.

      Sometimes mashed potato is used in the dough, sometimes the malasadas are rolled in honey as well as in sugar, and often a touch of vanilla or nutmeg is added.
