Etymology[edit]
Probably borrowed from Latin manū trūsāre (literally “to thrust with the hand”).

mantrugiàre (first-person singular present mantrùgio, first-person singular past historic mantrugiài, past participle mantrugiàto, auxiliary avére) (transitive)
- (regional, Tuscan, colloquial) to crumple or rumple with the hands, to handle carelessly, to manhandle
- (uncommon) to revise inexpertly (a composition, subject, etc.)
- (uncommon) to perform (a job or task) in a shoddy manner, to bungle
