From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] New Latin, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek μασητήρ (masētḗr, “a chewer, a muscle of the lower jaw used in chewing”), from μασᾶσθαι (masâsthai, “to chew”). Compare French masséter.
