From Proto-Albanian * ̊pītśi-, from Proto-Indo-European *peh₃-i- 'to drink'. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *ambi-wītja. Compare Sanskrit [script needed] ‎(vyáthate, to sway, to rock) and Gothic wiþon ‎(wiþon, to pour).
