Etymology

From Sanskrit मागध (māgadha, “male of mixed caste, with Kṣatriya-mother and a Vaiśya-father”).

Noun

megat (Jawi spelling مݢت, plural megat-megat or megat²)

1. title given to noble people, of royal descent on the mother's side but unable from the inferior position of their fathers to take the higher title of raja or tengku.
