Etymology[edit]

From Old Norse minnka, minka, from Old Norse minni, minnr, or perhaps continuing a Proto-Germanic *minnikōną (to make smaller, lessen, decrease). Cognate with Norwegian minka (to diminish, grow less), Scots mink, munk (to grow less, diminish).
