From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Balto-Slavic *mirtis, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *mértis, from *mer- (to die). Cognate to Latin mors, mortis, Sanskrit मृत्यु (mṛtyú).
