Borrowed from Neapolitan, the equivalent of Italian immondizia and immondezza, from Latin immunditia (dirt, untidiness), from immundus (dirty), from im- (without, not) + mundus (clean, elegant). Doublet of immondizia and immondezza. Compare Sicilian munnizza.
