Etymology[edit]

From French montrer, from Latin mōnstrō (I show, point out, indicate), from mōnstrum (divine omen indicating misfortune). Compare Italian mostrare, Portuguese and Spanish mostrar, obsolete English muster. Doublet of monstro.
