Etymology[edit]

By surface analysis, n- (distaff) +‎ cunocchia +‎ -ari. From Vulgar Latin *inconucŭlāre. Possibly from in- +‎ *conucŭlāre (distaff), this latter derives from the dissimilation of Latin colucŭla, diminutive of Latin colus. Compare Italian conocchia.
