Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Tai *ɗaŋᴬ (nose). Cognate with Thai ดัง (dang) or ดั้ง (dâng), Northern Thai ᨯᩢ᩠ᨦ, Lao ດັງ (dang), ᦡᧂ (ḋang), Shan လင်/ၼင် (lǎng/nǎng) (as in ၶူႈလင်/ၶူႈၼင် (khūu lǎng/khūu nǎng)), Tai Nüa ᥘᥒ (lang), Aiton ဒင် (daṅ) or ꩫင် (naṅ), Ahom 𑜓𑜂𑜫 (daṅ) or 𑜃𑜂𑜫 (naṅ), Bouyei ndangl. Compare also Proto-Austronesian *ujuŋ (nose).
