From Proto-Tai *ɗaŋᴬ. Cognate with Thai ดัง (dang) or ดั้ง (dâng), Northern Thai ᨯᩢ᩠ᨦ, ᦡᧂ (ḋang), Shan လင်/ၼင် (as in ၶူႈလင်/ၶူႈၼင်), Tai Nüa ᥘᥒ (lang), Aiton ဒင် or ꩫင်, Ahom 𑜓𑜂𑜫 (dang) or 𑜃𑜂𑜫 (nang), Bouyei ndangl, Zhuang ndaeng. Compare also Proto-Austronesian *ujuŋ (nose).
