[edit]From Proto-Tai *ɗɤːtᴰ (“to boil (intransitive)”). Cognate with Thai เดือด (dʉ̀ʉat), Lao ເດືອດ (dư̄at), Shan လိူတ်ႇ (lòet). Also compare Cantonese 焫 (naat3, “to burn; to scald”).
