nemme
Central Franconian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German nëmen, from Old High German neman, from Proto-West Germanic *neman. Compare German nehmen, Dutch nemen, Old English niman.
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]nemme (third-person singular present nemmp, preterite nohm, past participle jenomme)
Usage notes
[edit]- The second and third persons singular of the present have a vowel change /ɛ/ → /e/, which is not reflected in spelling. The preterite has /ɔː/. The past participle has /o/, less often /ɔ/.
- Virtually all dialects of Moselle Franconian lack this verb, using hole, holle instead.
