nigger chaser (plural nigger chasers)

  1. (US, slang, ethnic slur) A kind of bottle rocket firework without the stick.
    • 1924 July, Boys' Life, page 5:
      There's sure to be fireworks there. […] Rockets and Roman candles and torpedoes and whirligigs and nigger chasers and pinwheels.
    • 2007, George C. Zidbeck, Kid Scorpion: The War Years, page 49:
      Each had been given two dollars. Enough money to fill a good sized paper sack with a mix of sparklers, crackers, “dago bombs,” and “nigger chasers.”
    • 2019, Dr. Rickey L. Harman, Happy Days in Happy, Texas:
      A “nigger chaser,” another name for a Texas Twister firework, would travel in all kinds of directions on the ground making a whistling noise and then finally popping with a loud bang.
