[edit]Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic оцьтъ (ocĭtŭ), Proto-Slavic *ocьtъ, from Gothic 𐌰𐌺𐌴𐌹𐍄 (akeit) or 𐌰𐌺𐌴𐍄 (akēt), from Latin acetum. Compare Serbo-Croatian ocat, Bulgarian оцет (ocet).
