Etymology[edit]
Literally, “talk [someone] under the table”. Semantically very different from the identically-formed English talk someone under the table.
Verb[edit]
- (idiomatic, transitive) To outperform verbally; to run circles around someone in a discussion; to outdebate or outwit.
Usage notes[edit]
- Variants with similar verbs (such as the informal lullen) are not uncommon.
