Swedish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

+‎ skina

Verb[edit]

påskina

  1. to give the impression of or imply (something)
De vill påskina att de gör allt de kan
They want to appear to be doing everything they can
Det är inte så farligt att gå ensam där på natten som vissa vill påskina
It's not as dangerous to walk alone there at night as some would have you believe
De borde erkänna sina misstag istället för att låta påskina att planen var fullkomligt rationell
They ought to admit their mistakes instead of implying that the plan was completely rational

Usage notes[edit]

Normally uninflected and preceded by låta (let), vilja (want), försöka (try), or the like, though an inflection like for skina would be expected otherwise.
