Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *pa ̊, from Proto-Indo-European *peh₂(y)- (to herd, watch over). Cognate to Sanskrit पति (pā́ti-, to herd, watch (over)). A suppletive verb, which occurs in the participle and the aorist and as in the tempora and modi derived from these stems.[1]
