peikko
Finnish
Etymology
From older peikkoi, deriving either from Proto-Germanic *faihaz (“hostile, criminal”), *faigijaz (“fey”), or from a lost Baltic cognate (inexact parallels include Lithuanian paikas (“stupid”), piktas (“angry, bad”), pikčius (“devil”), pikulas (“devil”)), all ultimately based on Proto-Indo-European *peyḱ- (“to mark”). Possibly cognate with Estonian peig (“bridegroom”), which would suggest common Proto-Finnic Lua error in Module:parameters at line 290: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "fiu-fin-pro" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. reshaped in later Finnish.[1]
