1. (North America) to paint (e.g. a wall or fence)
   • 2007 April 16, Le Nouvelliste:

     Ce sont les élèves qui font toutes les tâches, que ce soit couper, sabler ou peinturer la cabane.

     It’s the students who do all the tasks, whether it’s cutting, sanding, or painting the cabin.

2. (France) to paint like a child, in a way lacking grace and dexterity

   Cet enfant s'amuse à peinturer.

   This child enjoys 'painting'.

Usage notes

• In Canada, this verb is used for applying a coat of paint in a utilitarian fashion; peindre is used for creating artworks. In France, peindre is used for both.
