Czech

Etymology

From Proto-Slavic *pěnędzь, which was borrowed from some Germanic term, probably from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German phenning (a kind of coin), which comes from an older (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German form phendi(n)g. Older origin is not clear, sometimes it is being connected with Latin pondus (weight).[1] Compare Czech pence, English penny and German Pfennig.
