phrenosin (uncountable)

  1. (biochemistry) A nitrogenous body that contains no phosphorus, related to cerebrin, supposed to exist in the brain.
    • 1913, Otto Rosenheim, The Galactosides of the Brain and Their Constitution:
      In both methods the crude galctosides were separated into the phrenosin and kerasin fraction by fractional crystallization at various temperatures.
    • 1915, Albert Prescott Mathews, Physiological chemistry, page 577:
      On decomposition of phrenosin, the crebronic acid breaks off first and there remains a compound of sphingosin and galactose of a basic nature named psychosin, C23H45NO7.
