From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Slavic *pogača from Medieval (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin focacea, focacia, a derivative of focus (“hearth, fireplace”), in the meaning "hearth bread" (panis focācius). Cognate with Italian focaccia (“a type of flat bread with toppings”).
