Etymology

  • (tomato): pomme (fruit) +‎ amour (love): From the supposed aphrodisiac qualities of the fruit's seeds. This origin is disputed, and it also suspected to be a corruption of Spanish pome dei Moro (fruit of the Moors), which may also be the basis of the Italian pomo d'oro. [1][2][3]
