Etymology
- (tomato): pomme (“fruit”) + amour (“love”): From the supposed aphrodisiac qualities of the fruit's seeds. This origin is disputed, and it also suspected to be a corruption of Spanish pome dei Moro (“fruit of the Moors”), which may also be the basis of the Italian pomo d'oro. [1][2][3]
