An adaptation of the Ancient Greek ψιθύρισµα ‎(psithúrisµa) or ψιθυρισµός ‎(psithurisµós), from ψιθυρίζω ‎(psithurízō, I whisper), from ψίθυρος ‎(psíthuros, whispering”, “slanderous).
