Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle English *poukel, *pukel, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old English pūcel (“a goblin, demon, a mischievous spirit”), diminutive of pūca (“demon, goblin, imp”), equivalent to puck +‎ -le. Cognate with Danish pokker (“devil, deuce”). More at puck.
