  1. (zoology) Any snakefly of the family Raphidiidae.

      Inocelliids are larger than most raphidiids, with the front wing varying in length from 11 to 17 mm.
    • 1993, Memoirs of the Entomological Society of Canada:
      Like raphidiids, xyelids have the mesopleuron divided into an episternum and epimeron by a distinct mesopleural suture, but the suture is angled much more obliquely and the epimeron is much smaller than the episternum (Figs. 8-10).
