[edit]From Old Irish sír (comparative sía). Cognate with Welsh hir, Cornish hir, Breton hir, and Latin sēra (“late”) (> French soir (“evening”), Italian sera (“evening”)).

[edit]- Usually used adverbially, preceding and leniting the verbal noun:
- a' sìor fhàs nas soilleire ― continually becoming clearer
- liosta a' sìor fhàs ― a growing list
- a' sìor dhol am meud ― continually growing in size
- a' sìor mheudachadh ― increasing steadily
