[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish سوزم اوكا (sözüm oña, “present company excepted”),[1] from سوز (söz),[2] equivalent to söz (“phrase, saying”) + o (3rd P. Sg. pronoun) + -(n)a (dative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant), literally “my phrase is directed at them, I'm referring to them”.
