Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish صیزمق (sızmak, to ooze through a vessel, to trickle, leak out, pass out), from Proto-Turkic *sɨŕ- (to ooze, to melt).[1]

Verb

sızmak (third-person singular simple present sızar)

  1. (intransitive) to percolate, leak, ooze
    Tavandan su sızıyor.Water is leaking through the ceiling.
  2. (intransitive) (for a secret) to leak out, become known
    Önemli veriler dışarı sızdı.Important data leaked out.
  3. (intransitive) to infiltrate, enter (a place) unobtrusively
    FBI, terör örgütüne sızdı.The FBI infiltrated into the terrorist organization.
  4. (intransitive) to fall asleep, pass out (after getting drunk)
    Çok içme, sonra sızacaksın.Don't drink too much, otherwise you will pass out.
