  1. Any of the American shield bugs, in the superfamily Pentatomoidea.
  2. (British) Any of several shield-shaped leaf beetles that typically inhabit a specific species of tree; especially members of the genus Cassida.
  3. (obsolete) Cossyphidae spp., now in the family Tenebrionidae of darkling beetles.
