From Ottoman Turkish سركه (sirke, “vinegar”), from Proto-Turkic *sirke (“vinegar”).[1] Compare Chuvash шарак (šarak, “bitter; salt”). Akin to Persian سرکه (serke); according to Doerfer the direction of a possible borrowing is not clear.[2]
