Etymology

[edit]

From snow +‎ tire.

Noun

[edit]

snow tire (plural snow tires)

  1. (automotive) A tire with rubber that remains soft at most winter temperatures, designed to maintain grip on snow and ice (historically these tires have poor tread life on tarmac and pavement, especially in non-cold temperatures)
  2. (slang) winter tires (due to winter tires being a more recent development than traditional snow tires)
