Etymology

Borrowed from Chinook Jargon, from soop (soap) (from English) + olallie, ollalie (berry) (from a Kwak'wala or Chinook word for berries). Compare soapberry.

soopolallie (plural soopolallies)

  1. A variety of deciduous shrub (Lua error in Module:taxlink at line 68: Parameter "noshow" is not used by this template.), the Canadian buffaloberry, the red fruit/berries of which may be used in the production of a frothy, aromatic drink.
