Etymology

Uncertain. Possibly from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin *disperdicāre, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin disperdere[1], or from Vulgar Latin *dispergicāre, iterative of Latin dispergere[2], or alternatively from Vulgar Latin *exprecāre ("drive into ruin"), from Latin ex- + precāri, present active infinitive of precor[3].
