With an epenthetic -b- (developed through influence from the rounded vowel -u-), from Classical Latin suīle (“pigsty”), derived from sūs (“pig”) +‎ -īle (suffix denoting enclosures for animals). Compare Logudorese suile, dialectal Sassarese suili.
